"Friday Feature Matinee - Quilts of Valor"
Wrapping our deserving service member(s) in a quilt hug at the end of a Quilts of Valor Award Ceremony is an act of appreciation for the sacrifices they have made and to bring comfort and healing, and for many of the presenters the most touching part of their mission. We are honored to be joined by members from our local “Quilts of Valor” group for this week’s Friday Feature Matinee. The Fremont chapter has grown from its start in 2017 to have (16) members who meet monthly to create quilts for our nation’s veterans.
To date this dedicated group of women have awarded 38 quilts to local veterans. Besides those quilts they have also turned in quilts for the Purple Heart Honor Flight and the “Call to Action” 2018 program to help for other states that are short for a total of 9. Local quilters from Prairie Piecemakers Guild and the Sew-N-Sews quilt group also turned in blocks, quilt tops and completed quilts to help us with the 17 quilts that we turned in for the Women’s Honor Flight. Throw in a flood and COVID-19 this is amazing group to accomplish all that.
Nationally the Quilts of Valor Foundation is now up to 600 groups with 10,000 members all over the US. And have awarded over 267,228 Quilts of Valor.
You can nominate your veterans through the www.QOVF.org website or contacting your local QOV chapter.
In honor of this week’s guests our featured products are all patriotic inspired. Two of our favorites are. “Made in the USA” from our Friend Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.
Of course, we also need a patriotic embroidery design for National Embroidery Month. Hearts & Stars from Lunch Box Quilts is the perfect project for someone new to Embroidered Applique!
Also new in the store (like the boxes just arrived!) is the new Primitive Gatherings Line “American Gatherings”. It is full of great patriotic fabrics and prints that are sure to inspire you! As an added bonus the Designer of Primitive Gatherings is hosting a 15-week Quilt along based off this collection. Watch the blog for more information on that later this week.
Be sure to mark your calendar and join us this Friday at 2:30 Central on our main Country Traditions Facebook Page, for this special Friday Feature!
