Triangle Frenzy Sampler - Block 4

Triangle Frenzy Sampler Month 4

How are your Triangle Frenzy Sampler Blocks coming along? If you have any completed any of the blocks, please post a picture of them on the Friends of Country Traditions Facebook Page. We would love to see how your blocks are turning out!

It is utterly amazing how versatile the simple Half Square Triangle unit is. This month and last month’s blocks are very similar, but by turning the (8) inner HST units and replacing the center four squares with HST units you get a whole new block!

While this quilt is meant to be a scrappy, it is still nice to be able to make a bunch of HST at one time to have on hand. So, this month I thought I would show you have to make (8) HST at a time!

The formula figuring out what size square we need for making 8 at a time is: Finished Size + 7/8” x 2. In our Case that would be 2” + 7/8” x 2 = 5-3/4”

Cut (1) background and (1) Print Square at 5-3/4”

Layer squares right sides together and mark a diagonal line from corner to corner both directions.

Sew a ¼” seam on both sides of each line.

Now when you go to cut apart you want to do all your cutting before messing with the square.  You will cut on both diagonal lines as well as through the center horizontally and vertically.

Press towards the dark triangle, and square up to 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” and this will yield you (8) HST.

Be watching for the Month 4 Block to come out in the May “As the Bobbin Winds” Email Newsletter.

Happy Quilting
